Matt Leighty is the founder of GrantFlow, a national grant services firm dedicated to helping mission-driven organizations compete for and win the funding they deserve. Since starting his career as a freelance grant writer working out of coffee shops in Long Beach, CA, Matt has supported more than 100 small and midsize nonprofits across the country and helped raise over $250 million in funding.
His work sits at the intersection of strategy, storytelling, and systems-building. He is a strong believer that grant writing is not just a fundraising task — it’s core infrastructure that deserves serious investment. Through GrantFlow, he and his team help organizations move from reactive grant chasing to proactive, sustainable funding strategies.
In addition to his consulting work, Matt teaches AI-Assisted Grant Writing at the University of Richmond’s Institute on Philanthropy. His forthcoming book, GrantFlow: How Grants Actually Work, What’s Broken, and What Comes Next, explores the future of the sector and the systems we need to build a more equitable funding landscape.
He lives in Richmond, VA, and believes deeply in the power of small organizations to drive big change — if they’re given the tools to do so.
