. . . Who am I to disagree? At a 50th birthday party women's "sleep-over" for a friend who is also an executive director, one of the organizers asked all of us to close our eyes and think of a fantasy. Then we went around the circle and told our fantasies. Imagine our embarrassment when my nonprofit friend and I didn't have exotic sexual fantasies like the others did . . . we had each fantasized about a huge, unrestricted gift. 🙂
This issue Rick Cohen reports on casinos and philanthropy . . . and we share the secrets to a Blue Ribbon Nominating Committee to get beyond the usual circles with board recruitment. We've got an article on Benchmarking Salaries and best of all, we announce a Blue Avocado Haiku Contest!
Blue Avocado donors: sweet dreams are made from your gifts. Thank you for your patience; if you joined at the $40 level or higher your flash drives are finally on their way! The rest of you can make your own donation by clicking here. 🙂 And please welcome Susan Sanow of Washington, D.C. to the Blue Avocado team; she's the new project manager, editor, donor manager, and much else. And a (bad) haiku to start you off:
Blue avocados
Dreaming on a summer's night
Shine on shine on me
–Jan Masaoka
Thanks for the sharing.
Thanks again for Blue Avocado. It has been such a great resource in all of my work both as a nonprofit staff person, program officer, and volunteer.
Always an interesting and fun read.
