As we get ready to welcome our new guest editor, we want to hear from you! What kind of avocado do you want to see?
Let’s face it, sometimes running a nonprofit can feel about as easy as folding a fitted sheet, but here at Blue Avocado, we want to help. For years now, we have been a practical and straightforward source for information related to running a community nonprofit, and now we’re moving forward into our next iteration. We’re so thrilled that you’re still with us as we continue to grow, and we want you to be a part of the process.
Our new guest editor will be here in May with a fresh issue, but as we prepare, we want to know what topics are most important to you? Are you bedeviled by fundraising? Is your organization trying to launch a capital campaign but doesn’t know where to start? Are you staring into the abyss of your next strategic plan? Or do you want to address diversity and inclusion?
Let us know what topics you want to read about by emailing editor@blueavocado.org.
In the meantime, we’ll keep providing as many free helpful resources through our partner organization, American Nonprofits — like the tools just launched from Raffa Accounting. And don’t forget to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter @blueavocadoorg.
Hi. I’d be interested in seeing more about career next moves- pit falls, signs that an organization is right for you, etc. I have enjoyed the “I’ in-depth perspective articles. And humor, keep up the humor and the down to earth style! Thanks, I really love reading Blue Avocado!
Change is scary, this month’s Blue Avocado lede declares.
The Blue Avocado that we know and love would address this head-on.
Let’s start with the elephant in the room. About a year ago, this publication underwent a huge change. People noticed, wondered and grieved over Jan’s absence.
Yet, comments about this are routinely quashed. This one probably will be quashed too.
Yet, as someone who values this resource, I’m writing to let you know that you need to address this head on.
Even if it is only to say “on the advice of our attorney, we cannot comment on this. Change is messy and hard and sometimes by necessity it leaves questions unanswered.”
If you don’t address this, the rest of your content — all the advice, all the invitations to participate, will ring hollow.
Sorry, but that’s just reality here. You can’t counsel nonprofits to be brave while you dodge and talk about everything except the elephant in the room.
I’ve been in your shoes and was grateful when people who cared told me like it is. Even thought it stung.
So I send this with best wishes for your success and concern about whether you will rise to the occasion. Please show us you will.

I like Blue Avocado’s focus on board/staff issues. I’ve often felt that Harvard Business Review and many other management publications reflect the board side well, but that Blue Avocade has been a great forum for NGO staff perspectives to be represented.
