As we’re still in the midst of a pandemic, some nonprofits are carefully beginning to consider re-opening, while others are thinking about how to continue managing telecommuting staff during Covid-19. In this issue of Blue Avocado, we touch on reimbursing employees for telecommuting expenses, redefining sustainability, and the importance of remaining truthful even in times of crisis for our organizations. Don’t forget to attend our upcoming interactive webinar – “Aligning Nonprofit Management Teams and Boards During a Crisis.”
On the topic of board diversity, in a recent issue, we published an interview that encouraged racial and ethnic diversity in nonprofit boards. A comment (since removed) accused Mando Rayo of being a “racist, all in the name of ‘diversity’ ‘inclusion’ and ‘equity.’” Notably, Robert Egger, the interviewer, while expressing arguably more radical views (“It’s time for us [white men] to step aside”) has never in our comment section been accused racism. We hope our current climate compels volunteers, staff, and leaders of the nonprofit sector to endeavor to understand the implications of our words, attitudes, and worldviews.
